Why Worcester Street?

Why Worcester Street?

Worcester street is one of the main veins feeding into the beating heart of Christchurch’s central city. Starting east at Woodham Road spanning 4.2km to terminate at the historic ‘boulevard’ end where Worcester street meets Rolleston Ave, the street houses numerous significant landmarks, including;

The Old Government Building - a category 1 listed building complete with swanky cocktail bar and eatery OGB - a true mainstay of the city’s nightlife.

The Christchurch Cathedral - the iconic Cathedral that was the poster child of our city pre-quake is currently undergoing some extensive repairs to restore it to its former beauty.

The Christchurch Art Gallery - Te Puna o Waiwhetū - is a stunning contemporary public art gallery and a hub of culture situated on Worcester Street

The Arts Centre - Te Matatiki Toi Ora - is a magnificent feat of architecture, engineering, repair and restoration that houses a number of recognisable businesses including the Cellar Door wine bar and restaurant and the beautiful Lumiere Cinema

The City Tramways
- the restored heritage trams trundling through the centre add to the charm of the city and harks back to a day when electric trams were prevalent in Christchurch, even through to the outer suburbs. In fact, in the early 1900’s Christchurch was able to boast the largest network in the country by route mileage at approximately 86km and by 1912 it was apparently only second only to Sydney in Australasia! The Cathedral Square stop located on Worcester Street is one of the most recognisable tram stops and in summer is teeming with tourists ready to ride the historic hop-on hop-off city transport system.

Living on the periphery of such an ever-improving city is enticing and exciting. We can see how so many ‘out-of-towners’ view Christchurch’s liveability and affordability compared to the other main centres as a real positive attribute. The city’s magnetism is truly beginning to show as new affordable housing stock replenishes older, sometimes earthquake damaged stock. Almost 11 years on from the quakes, Christchurch is really taking shape and there’s no better time to own part of the escalating city.

The development at 677 Worcester Street is one that speaks of Rosefern Homes’s vision for the future. We identified the site as a large, secure spot with the ideal space to build large townhouses so close to the city, just 2.1km from Fitzgerald Avenue. We also understand that Kiwi’s have ‘stuff’ - bikes, kayaks, paddleboards, cars etc, so we decided garaging was paramount. A lot of thought goes into the design and the location of our homes and with Worcester Street, we know it will be a popular release purely because of its central location, size and style.

These won’t last long….
